Hyperliquid fees explained: maker/taker fee tiers, staking discounts and builder fees (2026)

Trading on Hyperliquid costs a base fee set by your 14-day volume and any HYPE staking discount. If you trade through a third-party app, a builder fee can be added on top. This page lays out both parts. It covers trading fees only; for funding see Hyperliquid funding rates.

Fee schedule: Hyperliquid docs, snapshot 2026-10-20. Builder metrics: flowscan builder leaderboard, snapshot 2026-10-24. Homepage facts checked 2026-10-19. See the methodology.

Hyperliquid fee tiers (perps maker and taker)

Base fees depend on your weighted trading volume over the last 14 days. A taker pays when an order fills immediately against resting orders; a maker adds a resting order and pays less, or nothing at the highest tiers.

HYPE staking discounts

Staking HYPE reduces the fee. Each staking tier takes a percentage off the tier table above, as shown below.

Referral discounts and HIP-3 market multipliers are not included. Spot trading has its own fee schedule in the Hyperliquid docs; it is not reproduced here.

Builder fee on top

An app that uses a builder code can add its own fee to each order. Per Hyperliquid docs, the maximum a builder can charge is 0.1% (10 bps) on perps and 1% on spot, and you approve a maximum rate for the builder before it can charge you. The total you pay is the base fee plus the builder fee.

How to pay lower Hyperliquid fees

What builder fees do apps actually earn?

Dividing each app's builder revenue by its builder volume gives an average realised rate. This is not the fee each user is charged: rates can differ by market, order type and user, and the average also reflects how much of the volume is subject to a builder fee at all.

FAQ

What are Hyperliquid's trading fees?

At the lowest volume tier, perps cost 0.045% for takers and 0.015% for makers (snapshot 2026-10-20, per Hyperliquid docs). Fees fall as your 14-day volume rises, and staking HYPE gives a further discount.

What are the Hyperliquid fee tiers?

7 tiers based on your weighted 14-day volume, from Tier 0 at 0.045% taker / 0.015% maker up to the "> $7B" tier at 0.024% taker / 0.000% maker (perps, snapshot 2026-10-20). The full table is above.

How much does a builder fee add to my Hyperliquid cost?

It adds its rate to every order you place through that app. At tier 0, a 5 bps builder fee on a taker order takes the cost from 4.50 bps to 9.50 bps, and the protocol caps a perps builder fee at 10 bps.

What is the difference between maker and taker fees?

A taker order removes liquidity from the order book, for example a market order, and pays the taker fee. A maker order adds liquidity by resting on the book until filled, and pays the lower maker fee. At higher volume tiers the maker fee reaches zero.

What is a builder fee on Hyperliquid?

It is an extra fee an app can charge on top of Hyperliquid's base fee when it places orders with its builder code. Per Hyperliquid docs, the protocol caps it at 0.1% on perps and 1% on spot. See builder codes.

How is the effective builder fee in the table calculated?

It is the app's builder revenue divided by its builder volume over the same period, in basis points. It is an average realised rate across all its users and markets, not the fee each user is charged.

Is this page about funding rates?

No. This page covers trading fees only. Funding is a separate periodic payment between longs and shorts.
